Charting the Sun's Path

Expanding solar concepts into buildings where the sun's cycles go beyond practicality for energy efficiency to observing the sun has been an inspiration to us and our clients. Starting first with stained glass designs which transmitted light patterns telling the time of the year and expanding to houses that work as sundials working subconsciously on one level and with a touch of ceremony on another level. We hope such architectural design establishes a strong relationship to the natural and elemental.

Our mission is to design for the future responsibly.Preparing our own energy efficiency studies for our projects has enabled us to more capably and fully understand solar design. Designing solar with our clients interests in mind means using this technique when practical for project budgets, as well as when practical for micro- climates. In California for example, this has meant that solar shading often is needed more than bringing the sun into our buildings.

Our primary philosophy regarding solar design is that it should be seamless, as when integrated into more conventional styles, such as renovations to existing buildings. When we have the opportunity to create something new, we endeavor to make solar design beautiful and effective and to elaborate with a celebration of the cycles of the sun.
