The major premise of the design was to set the house on a 30, 60, 90 degree triangle pattern, where at the intersection of these lines were put large timbers- many of which had been cut from the site. They were then taken to a local lumber yard, hewn- and dried on site before erection. The intention was to make the inside of the house like a walk through the forest as it was before the house was there. Infused in the design are MAIDU patterns (Native people of the Sierra Foothills). These patterns were used in tilework, plasterwork, glasswork and woodworking. Intended as a retreat, this will in future serve as a semi-retirement home or electronic cottage from where family businesses will be run.
